Elliot Beken was hassling me during the week to ride P.M.C.R.C event, saying stuff like “It will be dry” fully knowing that Emsworth (the venue) is never dry. The few days of rain we had previous made it a sure fire mud bath. I managed to fettle the WRF after work on Saturday and wanted to try the new carburettor settings, also did the grey wire mod and didn’t want to risk testing it a SEEC event the following week. To Ell’s and Si's surprise I agreed to ride at Portsmouth that night.

I decided to kick the bike in gear on the mass start instead of using the button and sure enough got a good start. The bike felt good, very responsive on the throttle and no hint of hesitation or stalling just because it felt like it. First few laps were great, slippery but if you kept the tyres clean you had enough traction to shot from corner to corner. The bogs and dozens of deep ditches were starting to taking their toll on my arms and legs, around the 2 hour marker decide to come in and have some fluid and an cigarette as I had started to wonder all over the track.

One of the unwritten rules of Enduro is never go to the pits for a rest because by the time you chatted to everyone and his dog a 10 minute break turns into 20 minutes, best to rest on the going. After breaking my own rule I headed off for a few more laps and managed another 2, which were enough to tell me that I was well and truly knackered so went in the pits again. Elliot turned up and was refusing to do the extra lap saying he was done, so I said I’ll would go out with him and ride shotgun. Managed to stay with the young upstart for a while until he overtook someone and I decided not to, just sat behind him and pottered round.

That’s two tuff rides in consecutive weekends, I should hopefully be a little more bike fit, if the theory works for next weekend’s SEEC Kingston MCC round at Blackwood, three days to go and still feeling it!.

Thanks P.M.C.R.C for another Emsworth mudfest classic.

Result: Overall 16th In Class: 8th
