25th July 2010
My first event for 5 months after serious knee injury and only my 3rd ever enduro so to say I was a bit anxious was an understatement, I am also nursing a broken index finger on clutch hand lol, Erika and I got there nice and early, about 30 mins before Manny, I was signed on and bike scrutineered and on line before more people arrived, my sole adjective was to finish the enduro.
Erika was busy getting herself ready in her role as photographer for Team Snapper as no help from me this weekend unless I had a mishap.
My nerves sort of disappeared at the start and found myself on the front row of the sportsman class, off we went and I was in about 3rd place when we came to a left hander that was boggy especially on the right hand side and yes you guessed it I went wide and was catapulted over the bars, by the time I had got my breath back and dragged the bike to hard ground there was an eerie silencs, I was dead last! So I plodded on and eventually passed someone and just kept steady slow laps.
I am very physically fit for a 50yr old and did not break sweat once and did not even take drink from back pack, but I do lack any ability or talent to ride off road and fell off about 9 times over the 3 hours but just recovered and plodded on, I also did the log sections on every lap :-), I was riding my new Husqvarna 2010 TE250 X-Lite and to be honest am not that impressed and will sell over next 4 weeks, I feel you need to be more talented and have off road ability to make it purr and I have not got these.
My whole day was going well and was on last lap and simply having fun, nothing more nothing less until a rider was shouting at me to get out of the way using the F word.... yes I am slow and let everyone pass throughout the day but at this moment it was through a very tight section with nowhere to pull over safely and when I got to the end I was going to pull over, but he physically rammed me and then pushed me off with left arm which sadly threw me off the bike, he then rode over my bike snapping my rear subframe and mudguard/light assembly etc, I only do this for the fun/social side of enduro, it took me a few days to calm down, would like to say thank you to the two riders who saw what happened and helped me get back on and took sub frame back to pits. I would love to name shame him but only know bike model not number (Thankfully lol).
Due to having two knee operations on each leg i am a bit paranoid of damaging them so i have gone all out on protection, i use Vulkan Neoprene fitted supports over knee then i put Asterisk knee guards on and to protect ankles i use Vulkan Neoprene Ankle wrap around supports, after and during the event i never had a twinge/ache or pain so definately worth the cost, and would highly recommend.
Anyway when I saw the results I was very surprised as came 7th in Sportsman class with 10 laps completed.
